Five chiefs in Mandera South have reportedly been abducted by Al Shabaab suspects. The chiefs reportedly traveled from Wargadud to Elwak town on official business in order to meet and make plans for President William Ruto’s trip to the Northeast this week.

According to local witnesses, their vehicle was stolen somewhere between Bamba Owla and Ires Suki area.

Julius Njeru, the police commander for Mandera South, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt has been initiated to find the shooters. According to local witnesses, their vehicle was stolen somewhere between Bamba Owla and Ires Suki areas.
Following the event, a large-scale operation was called, and officials are actively pursuing the extremists who may have escaped into neighboring Somalia.
His Excellency President Ruto had purposed to travel to Northeast this week specifically to Garissa, Mandera, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Wajir.

The five chiefs were abducted few days ahead of Ruto’s scheduled visit. According to reports, His Excellency President Ruto had purposed to travel to Northeast this week specifically to Garissa, Mandera, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Wajir.
