In his recent Kisii tour, President Ruto affirmed that the proposed Nyamira University campus will be located at Kiabonyoru. The executive directive comes after a long standoff between local leaders and stakeholders.

As we speak, Kisii University Vice-Chancellor Nathan Ogechi is steering a committee to ensure the institution is up and running.

Nyamira University Campus at Kiabonyoru

Kiabonyoru High School was picked for Nyamira University following extensive consultations against other suitable locations.

Key factors considered in selecting the site along the Borabu Constituency and North Mugirango Constituency border include land size, topology, and accessibility.

The university will sit about 12 Kilometers to the South East of Nyamira town.

Other proposed sites that have since been disregarded include;

1. Bomodo Primary in West Mugirango
2. Ikonge Boys in Borabu
3. Ikonge in North Mugirango
4. Kiabonyoru High School
5. Kiamogake in North Mugirango
6. Manga Model School in Kitutu Masaba
7. Riakimai in West Mugirango
8. Senator Kebaso High School in West Mugirango
9. Sengera Manga in Kitutu Masaba
10. Simbauti Farm in Borabu

As a starter token, His Excellent President Ruto promised a whooping Ksh 500 million to finance tuition blocks.

He further directed the Ministry of Education to spearhead the process in collaboration with Kisii University and the Commission for University Education.

Other stakeholders include Nyamira parliamentarians, Senator Okong’o Omogeni, and Governor Amos Nyaribo.

The inception of Nyamira University Campus is a big win considering that it’s a hotbed of Cabinet Secretaries in the Ministry of Education.
