Many Kenyans are now scrambling at mobile telco outlets to have their sic cards registered. This is after the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) gave a directive to Safaricom, Airtel, and Telcom operators to register their lines to avoid deactivation. When is the Sim Card Registration deadline?

According to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), every Kenyan with a sim card should register it by April 15, 2022. The main aim of sim card update is to eradicate digital fraudsters and cybercrime issues.
This is the third time the regulator is ordering mobile network operators; Safaricom, Airtel and Telcom to re-register their customers after the 2012 and 2018 plan failed. “We have committed to do our best to ensure all our customers comply with the directive and urge them to ensure compliance before the deadline. We encourage all customers who are yet to update their registration details to do so immediately to avoid the last-minute rush,” Safaricom told the Nation.
To meet the deadline, the Operators have increased the number of clients to help in the registration process. “To this end, we have set up registration stations in various spots across the country to get closer to our customers so that they can submit their details,” the telco said.
The Authority also said there will be no additional dates for registration, and urged everyone to meet the deadline. “There would be no extension so those still dragging their feet should wake up to the reality and register with their respective telecom service providers or face permanent deactivation,” said the CA Director General.
What are the requirements for sim card registration in Kenya?
To register a line, the operators will require the customer’s digital passport-size photo and their original Identity card. The refugees and foreigners will use their passports.
