Final presidential results; IEBC Chairperson announces the 5th President of Kenya


The Chairperson Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Wafala Chebukati has today on Monday August 15, 2022 at 6:00p.m announced the final presidential results. Speaking from Bomas of Kenya, Wafula began by appreciating Kenyans for being patient with the IEBC.

The General elections were conducted on Tuesday August 9, 2022 and counting started later in the day. Results for other elective seats such as Governors, Senators, Women representatives, Members of Parliament and members of the County Assembly are already out except for a few.

Final presidential results, who is the fifth?

Kenyans were eagerly waiting for the national returning officer, Wafula Chekukati to announce the president-elect 2022.

Dr. William Ruto together with his family and his team arrived at the Bomas of Kenya at exactly 3:00p.m ready for the event. David Mwaure was also accompanied by his family to witness the president elect 2022.

George Wajackoyah was not left behind as he arrived at Bomas with his team at exactly 3:01 p.m. A number of politicians also arrived at Bomas to witness the presidential-elect.

 Also, invited choirs graced the event with several songs before Chebukati announced the 5th president of Kenya.

William Ruto the 5th

Speaking from Bomas, Chebukati said that the counting of votes was done with transparency. He also stated that they followed the constitution, which states that one must surpass 50% + 1 votes before being declared the president.

It is after this that he announced Dr William Ruto as the 5th president of Kenya.

How many presidential aspirants attended the event?

There were four presidential aspirants in 2022; Roots party leader George Wajackoyah, Kenya Kwanza leader William Ruto, Agano leader David Mwaure, and Azimio leader Raila Odinga. However, two of the mentioned were in a tight competition and one was expected to be Kenya’s 5th president.

The Agano leader, David Mwaure had on August 14, conceded to defeat leaving George Wajackoyah, William Ruto and Raila Odinga in the presidential race.
