KNEC distanced themselves from the online reports and stated that the KCSE exam marking was still in progress.

“KNEC has made no such statement. Marking of KCSE is ongoing and the results will be released when they are ready,” the Exams Council stated.

While speaking to one of the media houses, CS Machogu revealed that KCSE 2023 results will be made public during the second week of January 2024. He went on to say that the scores are still under compilation, verification, and validation. Machogu also stated that they are working on the results to ensure that there are no errors.

KNEC speaks about exam irregularities

KNEC acknowledged mistakes in the most recent KCPE results that were made public following complaints from multiple candidates and parents. While some students complained about receiving results for subjects they never took, others said they were missing marks for specific subjects.

The Education CS however defended KNEC, claiming that the mess was caused by the contracted SMS service provider. Machogu went on to say that the errors only affected those who received the results via SMS, and that the results displayed on the KNEC portal were accurate.

In response to the irregularities, Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio, stated that the government had mishandled the exams.

“Look at the examinations, students in the same class get similar marks in a subject, there is no bright or weak student,”

“What type of an exam is that? That is a Ruto and Gachagua exam,” Raila questioned.
