The Kenyan athlete began his sporting career while still in high school. During this time, he played Rugby for Kamusinga School Rugby team. Upon sitting for his KCSE exams, he was called to join the Kenya Sevens Teams under 20, but unfortunately, the trials did not happen.
Omunyala then decided to venture into athletics where he participated in local competitions and won a number of races. Interestingly, he was chosen to participate in the Kenyan Team on the 2017 World Relays in the Bahamas.
On January 23 2021, Omunyala was featured in the second AK relay series, where he ran 100 meters race for 10.11 seconds. Again, he managed to clock 10.02 seconds, after which he qualified for the Toyko Olympics. On July 312021, he completed the Toyko Olympics, thus becoming the first Kenyan to qualify for the 100 meters semifinal race.
On August 4 2021, Omunyala set another record after completing a 100 meters race in 9. 86 seconds. He also clocked 9. 77 seconds at the Absa Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour in Nairobi, on September 8, 2021.
Finally, he wowed Kenyans on 30 Saturday July 2022, after he won Men’s 100 meters gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
