The Kenyan politician was born as Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua to his parents; the late Nahashon Gachagua Reriani and Martha Kirigo. He is the eight born among the nine siblings in his family.

Rigathi Gachagua parents were Mau Mau freedom fighters in Mt. Kenya forest. In an interview, he revealed that his father used to service guns for freedom fighters while his mother used to cook for them.

Also, he stated that his family was so poor as they lived in a grass thatched house, and could hardly get enough food to put in their stomachs.

‘’Mimi ni mtoto wa Mau Mau nilizaliwa pale kwa msitu, hatukuwa na chochote, nilikwa naishi kwa nyumba nyasi, nilikwa nimeangaika, tulikuwa tumekosa chakula na school fees siku mingi, Mungu ananiinua,’’ he said.

Gachagua’s father was a technician. This is because he used to service guns for the Mau Mau fighters.

‘’My father was a technician. He used to service guns for the Mau Mau fighters while my mother provided them with food and ammunition. I grew up in a colonial village. Those colonial villages were where the settlers put people so that they could control them,’’ he said.

The second in command also said that his father, the late Nahashon Gachagua Reriani had another wife. However, he never revealed more about her.
