Dr. William Ruto biological father, Mzee Daniel Cheruiyot was a peasant and a businessman. As a father, he struggled to make his children have the best. He also mentored his children to grow morally, the reason why Ruto became a choirmaster in his youthful years.

After educating all his children, Mzee Cheruiyot turned to become a chief maize supplier to the National Cereal Produce Board. Besides, he owned a herd of cattle and supplied several litres of milk to the Kenya Co-operative Creameries Limited.

Unfortunately, Mzee Daniel Cheruiyot passed on in 2008, when Ruto was the Member of parliament for Eldoret North.
