Prof George Magoha has today on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, announced new reopening dates for all schools. He said that the Ministry came into such a decision after they consulted with the IEBC and realized that the tallying exercise will last for few days. He further explained that ballots are yet to be removed from schools that were being used as polling stations.

Magoha has also asked all parents to ignore any prior communications that schools were to reopen on August 11.
George Magoha announces new reopening dates
While speaking from one of the media houses, Prof Magoha ordered schools to reopen as from Monday, August 15, 2022. He said that the Ministry came into the decision after consulting with IEBC.
Magoha had on August 1, 2022 ordered a closure of all schools in preparation of General elections. He had also said that learners would resume from half term break on August 11, 2022.
“On 1st August 2022, I ordered the early closure of all Basic Education Institutions to allow for adequate preparation and conduct of the General Elections.”
“We indicated that the reopening would be on the 11th of August 2022. We have, however, been informed that the process of tallying ballots may still be ongoing on the aforementioned date,” Magoha stated.

On Monday, August 8, Prof Magoha however announced that schools will reopen depending on the outcome of the elections.
“Assuming everything else is constant, the children should go back to school Thursday, August 11. However, the date may change depending on the political environment.”
He however apologized to parents for any inconveniences caused.
“We apologise for any inconvenience occasioned by these changes and ask for your indulgence, as we work through ensuring the safety and comfort of learners through this period.
