At first, Susan worked as an assistant district attorney in Dallas. She later ventured into private practice as an attorney. After that, she established Kihika Law Firm in Dallas. In 2012, Kihika travelled to Kenya after a successful legal career spanning two decades.

She lost the Bahati Constituency parliamentary seat in 2013 and went on to become the first female speaker in Nakuru County Assembly.

In 2017, Susan Kihika won the much-coveted Nakuru senatorial seat. Following the win, she served as the Jubilee Party Majority whip until May 2020 when Senator Irungu Kang’ata took over.

Elected on the Jubilee Party ticket, she has since sidelined with DP Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance Party.
