How Gladys Gakii was abandoned by her foster parents

After her mother abandoned her by a river, Gakii fled from her abusive foster parents and made her own way in the world. When it became clear that there was no other way for the courageous Conje to succeed, she took the crucial decision to go back to school in 2019. Luckily, with the assistance of well-wishers, she attended Kiamuriuki Secondary School and later joined the University for further studies.

Despite many difficulties throughout her life, from being abandoned by a river as a baby to losing her assets and businesses, Conje has now achieved her Diploma in Criminology from Tharaka University.

“I have attained a Diploma in Criminology and Security Studies. After all the struggles with school fees and upkeep, the Vice-chancellor saw my determination and thirst for education and offered me a scholarship in December last year,” Conje said.

“In January 2024, by the grace of God, I will step into a Bachelor’s class. Thanks to Tharaka University Vice-chancellor professor Peter Kinyua Muriungi,” she continued

Gladys Conje acknowledged that she wouldn’t have succeeded, so she persisted in pleading with the VC to assist her in realizing her aspirations to become a better person in life.
