The results announced at polling stations are final, says Chebukati
Chebukati also said that most of the polling stations are done with counting votes and have given out the results. He also added that 26,881 out of 46, 229 polling stations countrywide are done counting and have given out their results to the Bomas of Kenya.
This year’s elections was marred with voter apathy as few Kenyans turned out to vote than expected. However, he did not talk about the low voter turnout experienced in most stations in the country.
On the other hand, some polling stations experienced malfunctions with the Kiems kits and had to use the manual registers. “The commission will start announcing the results once they have been verified,” he noted.
Delays in polling
Chebutaki stated that the polling stations in Kakamega, Makueni, Nairobi, and Isiolo counties experienced delays but the elections were conducted peacefully.
He further explained that the stations have been given time to finalize their results before submitting them to the Bomas of Kenya. “Here at Bomas we will verify the form 34A. The law requires IEBC to verify and declare the winner within 7 days,” he said.
