KNEC’s warning letter to KCPE/KCSE candidates

Sitting for KNEC exams towards the end of the year has been a norm in Kenya for years now. However, things are not the same as KNEC exams for 2020 are postponed. This is because the outbreak of the pandemic in March resulted in schools closing up. Following the government’s directive, Grade 4, KCPE, and KCSE candidates resumed their classes in November 2020. The Ministry of Education has rescheduled the final exams to commence on March 22 to March 24, 2021, for KCPE and March 26 to April 21, 2021, for KCSE. Furthermore, schools have been set to reopen on January 4, 2020.

KNEC’s warning letter to KCPE/KCSE candidates

On Monday, December 14, 2020, the Ministry of Education released a letter to all candidates preparing for their final exams. Signed by the acting KNEC CEO, Mercy Karogo, the letter warns candidates against malpractices in the forth-coming exams.

Korogo stated that some parents, teachers, and classmates mislead candidates into stealing exams. In one of her statements, she said, “These people mistakenly think that they are helping you, but instead they are exposing you to suffering through the loss of examination results.” Therefore, she cautioned everyone preparing to sit for final exams to distance himself/herself from cheating.

Karogo also said that the Ministry of Education is ready to cancel exam results of any candidates who will engage themselves in stealing. “Results will only be given for a candidate’s own honest efforts,” she stated.

Professor George Magoha had earlier announced the reopening of schools in Kenya. Besides, during Jamhuri holiday 2020 celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta warned parents who may fail to comply with the schools reopening directive.

In one of his statements, he said, “To guarantee that no child is left behind, I hereby direct and order as follows; That the Ministry of Interior shall, through all chiefs, account for all children within their jurisdictions.”

The education CS Professor George Magoha, accompanied by a team from the ministry, is currently in the UK, overseeing the printing of the Kenya National Examinations.
